Spring and Summer Ride Schedule (DST begins to DST ends)
Monday, 6:00 PM New-comers' Ride Starting point: Cycle Works (Clinton Pkwy and Kasold). 30 minutes of getting to know your equipment and the sport; 30-60 minutes of riding. Routes vary; pace averages 12mph - distance and speed increases as the summer goes on. Sponsored by Cycle Works. Monday, 6:00 PM Free State Ride Start point: Constant Park (6th & Tennessee) This moderately paced ride travels out Scenic River Road and returns to the start. Riders can attend Happy Hour at Free State afterwards. Tuesday, 6:00 PM Smell the Roses Ride Starting point: Constant Park (5th and Tennessee). A leisurely paced 15 to 20 mile ride. Children welcome! Bring the wider tires for the Smell the Gravel option. Bring some extra money. Ends with a visit to a local restaurant for dinner, treat, and converstation. Social Pace - Stays with the slowest rider, 8-12 mph.
Wednesday, 6:00 PM Pasta Ride Starting point: Bambino's (18th and Massachusetts). A moderate-paced ride 20 mile ride. Bring some extra money. Ends with a dinner get-together at Bambino's. A popular ride among the membership. Moderate Pace - Regroups a couple of times during ride.
Thursday, 6:00 PM Comet Ride Starting point: Broken Arrow Park (31st and Louisiana). A fast-paced 22 mile ride. Loops through Vinland and back to Broken Arrow Park. Very popular with riders who like speed. Ends with an all-out sprint to the finish. Training Pace - Pace lines with experienced riders, 20-25 mph.
Thursday, 6:00 PM Comet II (Tail) Ride Starting point: Broken Arrow Park (31st and Louisiana). This ride is for cyclists who want to go fast but not pass the Comet riders. Near-training Pace - Experienced riders, 18-22 mph. Saturday, 8:00 AMMuffin RideStarting point: Broken Arrow Park (31st and Louisiana). The Lawrence Bicycle Club's most popular ride. A 35 mile ride good for all levels of experience and speed, the route goes to Lone Star Lake, where the riders stop to "regroup" all participants. Returns to Lawrence for breakfast at a local restaurant. This is a beautifully scenic ride that members never grow tired of repeating. Successfully intergrates beginning riders and faster riders who can "hammer" the first leg. Mixed Pace - Multiple groups of different speeds from moderate to fast, 15-20 mph.Sunday, 8:30 AMSunday Show-N-GoStarting point: South Park Gazebo (12th and Massachusetts). A new destination is chosen each week. Distance varies from 20 miles in the spring, gradually increasing over the season to 80 miles in the fall. Destinations are published in advanced in the club newsletter and ride schedule calendar. Maps are provided to participants at the gathering point. Tuesday, 6:00 PM Illuminated Bike Path Ride Starting point: Southwind 12 Theaters (3433 Iowa). Lights required for this after-dark wintertime ride. A leisurely paced 15 to 20 mile ride. Route follows the South Lawrence Trafficway bike path. Bring some extra money. Ends with a visit to a local restaurant for dinner, treat, and converstation. This ride was listed by Bicycling (2002) magizine as the sixth best ride in the country! (15-20 miles). Social Pace - Stays with the slowest rider, 8-12 mph.
