14-15 Oct 2006 It will happen! Join us.
Location: Lone Star Lake Campground Events:Saturday Evening Lighted Ride, Saturday Night Camp-out, Sunday Tour de Chicken Creek Gravel Road Ride Cost:$10.00 for the Sunday ride, maybe a fee to camp Details: Lone Star Lake is about 15 miles southwest of Lawrence. Campground features include showers, restrooms, and a swimming area (br-r-r...maybe). Both rides start at the campground. You will need a bike light to participate in the the Saturday night ride. Sunday's Tour de Chicken Creek will start at 8:00 AM. The route will have 25 and 50 mile options, both featuring the historic Chicken Creek Bridge, a native stone arch bridge constructed in the late 1800's by local craftsman and laborers and is on the National Registry of historic places. Be sure to stop at the bridge and take a few minutes to appreciate this historic structure before continuing on your ride. In general, the roads are hard-packed, with three to four big rolling hills and virtually no motor traffic. SAG support will include two stops with snacks and water. Bring cash in case the route passes a convenience store. No restrooms will be available on the route---except for that provided by nature. Mountain bikes, hybirds, cross bikes, and recumbents with tires for hard-packed gravel are recommended: road bikes with 28-37 width tires will also work.
Come out and enjoy a different kind of ride and new scenery! See a part of Douglas County that most people don't get to enjoy.
