What better way to beat the heat than to ride the Lizard Under the Skillet? Yes, July is hot! How hot is it?
“It was so hot I watched a lizard crawl into the campfire just to get in the shade of the skillet.”
A new Event Day! This year’s Lizard will be on Sunday, July 12. Mark your calendar!
Choose from three routes, varying in length, Gecko (31 miles), the Iguana (45 miles) and the Godzilla (65 miles) on lightly traveled paved roads. SAG stops are every 10-15 miles. Besides great SAGs, the course is well-marked and mechanical support will be available from Cycle Works, TREK Lawrence, and Sunflower Outdoor and Bike Shop. The Kansas City Ham Radio Operators are providing additional safety support again this year.
Start your ride between 6 am and 8 am. at Broken Arrow Park. The course closes at 2 pm. Rider check-in is required.
Early Packet Pickup (avoid lines) is available on Saturday, July 11 (2-6 p.m.) at Trek Bicycle Lawrence, 2525 Iowa St, Lawrence. Day of Packets and check-in at Broken Arrow Park on Sunday, July 12 beginning at 5:30 am.
Cool down after the ride with gelato and sorbetto, soft drinks, and ice-cold cooling towels at Broken Arrow Park shelter house.

FREE Family ride (new this year): Get your kiddos out for a fun ride with other families. We’ll do a 3-mile roundtrip ride from Broken Arrow to the Baker Wetlands Nature Center on the paved Lawrence Loop Trail, accompanied by experienced ride leaders. Treats, including Pirates Booty, at the end of the ride. No preregistration required. Check-in at 8:00 am and roll out at 8:30 am.
